{"id":507,"date":"2015-05-21T15:46:06","date_gmt":"2015-05-21T22:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bryonross.com\/blog\/?p=507"},"modified":"2015-05-21T15:46:06","modified_gmt":"2015-05-21T22:46:06","slug":"coastal-maine-tuesday-may-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.bryonross.com\/blog\/?p=507","title":{"rendered":"Coastal Maine (Tuesday, May 5)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today, we drove north along the Maine coast toward <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/acad\/index.htm\">Acadia National Park<\/a>, stopping along the way for sightseeing and food.<\/p>\n<p>On the recommendation of one of the employees\u00a0at the LL Bean store, we started our day with\u00a0a scenic drive down one of the &#8220;fingers&#8221; (long narrow peninsulas extending from the coast of Maine). There wasn&#8217;t much at the end except for a harbor, so we took some pictures and headed back up the finger.<\/p>\n<p>For lunch, we stopped at the famous Red&#8217;s lobster shack in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wiscasset,_Maine\">Wiscasset<\/a>\u00a0for a very meaty lobster roll and some other delicious Maine seafood. For dessert, we shared a slice of the excellent\u00a0four-berry\u00a0pie at Moody&#8217;s Diner in Waldoboro.<\/p>\n<p>As we continued our drive, we stopped at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rockland_Harbor_Breakwater_Light\">Rockland breakwater<\/a> for a nice walk and yet another lighthouse. There were a few fishermen out on the breakwater and a surprising number of pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of Camden, we drove up Mt. Battie in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maine.gov\/cgi-bin\/online\/doc\/parksearch\/search_name.pl?state_park=14&amp;historic_site=&amp;public_reserved_land=&amp;shared_use_trails=&amp;option=search\">Camden Hills State Park<\/a>\u00a0for a magnificent view of the area. Sadly, there is a per-person fee to enter the park\u00a0and non-Maine residents have to pay more.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re staying the night at the <a href=\"http:\/\/barharbormotel.com\/\">Bar Harbor Motel<\/a>\u00a0in Bar Harbor, where the staff is refreshingly\u00a0friendly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today, we drove north along the Maine coast toward Acadia National Park, stopping along the way for sightseeing and food.
